I’m collaborating with Dr. Michael Skyer (University of Tennessee Knoxville) and a doctoral candidate, Leah Oakes (University of Tennessee Knoxville), to conduct research exploring the lives of deaf and queer individuals, including those belonging to other social categories. Our primary focus is understanding how positive socio-educational interventions contribute to positive quality of life outcomes for deaf and queer people.
In April 2025, we published a brief “Queerness and deafness” in the Journal of Deaf Studies and Deaf Education (Vol. 30, Issue 2.) The article can be found here.
We are currently conducting a qualitative data collection process and aim to release our findings sometime in 2026. Additionally, we are working on compiling a literature review on the quality of life for deaf and queer individuals.
